A KAVS Honour is the only honour given to groups of volunteers to recognise the significant contribution they make to their community and the nineteen groups heard of their Honour on 14 November last year when it was announced as part of The King’s Birthday Honours.
Amongst the organisations are three from Dudley (Access In Dudley, Friends of Saltwells Nature Reserve, We Love Carers), three from Sandwell (Warley Amateur Boxing Club, Warley Woods Community Trust, Wallace Youth Project), two covering the Black Country ( Black Country Mental Health, Black Country Blokes), three from Wolverhampton (Friends of Di’s Kitchen, Give Us A Break , Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust), Halesowen In Bloom, Four from Birmingham ( Agrani Arts and Cultural Society, Grosvenor Road Studios, Shine Nechells, Switch Radio covering Birmingham and Solihull) and three from Coventry (Mercia MS Therapy Centre, Moat House Community Trust, Warwick Volunteers).
The Lord-Lieutenant of the West Midlands, Derrick Anderson CBE, looks forward to meeting the volunteers who are dedicated to helping others and making the region a better place to live.
He said: “The King’s Award for Voluntary Service is a recognition for the many wonderful people who give their precious time to help others, bringing together local communities and improving the quality of so many lives. I am grateful for everything they do and impressed by the initiatives and enterprises they have established.
"The event will be uplifting and heart-warming as the groups watch short videos of how each contribute so much to their community.”
