The college group, which includes Royal Leamington Spa College, Rugby College, Warwick Trident College, Moreton Morrell College, Pershore College and Evesham New College, are holding these from October 7 to 11, including on World Mental Health Day itself on October 10.
Ahead of this, a group of supported learning students from Pershore College have created a special mural entitled ‘Take a Moment, Reach Out’ which focuses on the importance of reaching out for support.
The students were joined by Judith Abbott, Specialist Support Lead for Mental Health at WCG, who delivered a session on mental health before the students worked together to create the artwork.
The mural also contains motivational and mindfulness stations, featuring motivational quotes and positive affirmations for students and staff to take away.
It will be on display at the college throughout the week, and a photograph of the artwork will be displayed at the other WCG colleges.
The week will see the six colleges welcome representatives for charities and organisations including Mind, Barnardo’s, Caring Together Warwickshire, Sky Blues in the Community, Samaritans, Warwickshire Pride, Talking Therapies, the Farming Community Network, Hope UK, COMPASS and more who will be on-hand to speak to.
There will also be a programme of presentations and activities covering a wide range of topics which will be available to all students and staff.
A number of staff training sessions will also take place throughout the week, covering topics such as drug use and how to have open conversations about it, mental health at work, young carers, and grief and loss.
Judith said: “The students have done an excellent job at creating a mural which highlights the importance of positive mental health and reaching out for support.
“This will be a perfect centrepiece for our week of activities and events to mark World Mental Health Day.
“The week will not only raise awareness of mental health, but act as a chance to talk about mental health in general, how we need to look after it, and how important it is to talk about things and get help if you are struggling.
“It will also help educate our students and staff about the wide range of support services available where they can access this help.
“We have created a programme which will take place right across our colleges in Warwickshire and Worcestershire.
“We already do a lot of work around mental health support at WCG, and the week will expand on this and further demonstrate the importance of the health and wellbeing of our students and staff.”
