Popular Lambing Weekend event returns in March

The first lambs of spring are set to again attract thousands of people to Moreton Morrell College as a major event returns to the renowned agricultural college.

The college, which is part of college group WCG, will be hosting its annual Lambing and Animals Weekend on Saturday, March 25 and Sunday March 26.

Popular Lambing Weekend event returns in March

A fun-packed weekend is in store at WCG’s Nethermorton Farm after the event made a triumphant in-person return in 2022, with more than 4,000 visitors attending across the two days.

The star attraction will again be the opportunity to meet the first lambs of spring, but visitors will also be able to ask questions and learn about lambing from Daniel Hale, who manages the 650-acre farm.

Tours will also be held in the Animal Centre, where visitors can get up close to meerkats, raccoon dogs, porcupines, coatis and other exotic animals.

The college introduced a farmer’s market which offered local businesses a free pitch last year, and that is set to expand again this year, with stalls selling a wide range of wares from food and crafts, to soaps and candles.

The event runs from 10.30am until 4pm on both days, with last entry at 3pm.

All proceeds from the event are invested back into equipment to support curriculum delivery at Moreton Morrell College.

Farm manager Daniel Hale said: "After two years of the event being held virtually due to Covid-19, we had incredible turn out in 2022 as people flocked back for the Lambing and Animals Weekend.

"We're building upon that success and are hoping to offer a bigger and better experience for people who visit the farm over the last weekend in March.

"It's great that we are able to share the lambing season, one of the most important periods of the year, with the local community. It will give people the chance to find out more about our new born lambs as well as introduce young people to some of the fantastic careers in farming.

“There will be something for everyone, including the farmer’s market that was a big success last year selling some excellent local produce.”

Advanced tickets are priced at £18 for a family ticket (two adults and two children). Tickets on the day are priced at £7 for adults, £4 for under 16s and £5 for OAPs. Children aged under two can enter free of charge.
