Originating from the rainforests of the Pacific Coast of Columbia, the Spider’s name is derived from its distinctive, brightly coloured orange and yellow abdomen markings. Although small, this Spider has bags of attitude!
In Minibeast Metropolis there is an assortment of poison dart frogs, spiders, medicinal leeches, axolotl, and slithering snakes. In Rainforest Realm visitors will find a magnificent spectacled Caiman and a Malagasy Giant Chameleon!
From 28 - 31 October staff will be dressing up in Halloween costumes and encouraging visitors to do the same, the spookier the costume the better! As Halloween approaches gravestones will appear throughout the Butterfly Farm with messages warning what could happen if we do not look after our planet.
Butterfly Lifecycle, Mini-Beast, Beetle, and Pupae Demonstrations will take place daily at 11am in the Discovery Zone. The team of experts will demonstrate from egg through to adult, the amazing stages of the butterfly life cycle as well as giving visitors the opportunity to handle a variety of stick insects.
Jane Kendrick, Marketing Manager at Stratford Butterfly Farm said, “We’re delighted to have this beautiful Pumpkin Patch tarantula, one of the most colourful spiders on display. We also have plenty of scary insects for visitors to admire, although they are safely behind glass. We hope our younger visitors get into the spirit of Halloween and come dressed up to help us celebrate the spookiest time of the year!”
