Challenge Walk Raises £16,500 for The Shakespeare Hospice

The Shakespeare’s Way Challenge Walk has become a popular event for walkers of all abilities, with participants taking in the stunning scenery along the route. This year, the event raised a huge amount for the Hospice, which will go towards providing vital care and support for those living with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Bridget Richards, Events & Community Fundraiser at The Shakespeare Hospice, expressed her gratitude for the support shown by the sponsors, participants, and the community at large. "We are thrilled with the success of the Shakespeare’s Way Challenge Walk and grateful to our sponsors Johnson's Coaches, A-Plan Insurance and Alcester Motor Company, as well as all the participants who took part and helped us raise such a fantastic amount for the Hospice." she said. "We are also grateful to both Morrisons and Tesco stores in Stratford-upon-Avon for providing supplies for all of the participants. The funds raised will help us continue to provide essential care and support to those who need it most."

One of the participants, Paul Talbot from Shottery, explained why he took part in the event: “I lost my mother to bowel cancer in 1999. The support she received from the Hospice was incredible and she had nothing but praise for the nurses there. We saw this walk promoted in one of the shop windows a few months ago and my wife and I both thought “we’ve got to do this”!”

The Shakespeare Hospice would like to thank all the participants, volunteers, and sponsors who made the Shakespeare Way Challenge Walk possible. Their support will make a real difference to the lives of those in the community who need hospice care.

The Hospice is hosting an Open Day and Summer Fete on Sunday 10th June at its base in Shottery. The event runs from 11am-2pm and will include garden games, stalls, a raffle, and a display of alpacas. Further information is available at TheShakespeareHospice.org.uk/Event
