What are your current recruitment challenges?

Good Egg Recruitment talked earlier this year about recruitment trends across the UK and Midlands and while there seemed to be some positivity in trends, this doesn’t seem to have fully come to fruition.

The change in Government has seen inklings of a change of previous trends but it also feels like this might take time. With that in mind, we would love to ask you what are your current recruitment challenges?

What recruitment challenges are others facing?

Recruitment lows and highs have, in years gone by, seemed to have impacted each sector similarly. That has changed with positives, and negatives, nuanced to role, skills and sector.

Good Egg Recruitment, highlighted that in the Midlands, we were seeing:

  • The second-fastest rise in temporary staff behind London
  • Aerospace, defence, and engineering sectors on the rise
  • IT remaining the largest skill in demand

This supports the challenge of a skills shortage affecting some sectors while others are growing. However, recent reports suggest that the UK is facing a shortfall of 2.5 million skilled workers in healthcare, engineering and education amongst others. Currently, 40% of  HR professionals say this is their major challenge. And that figure doesn’t take into account those SMEs without a dedicated HR professional who might be finding it even more of a challenge.

Share your recruitment challenges to see the bigger picture

We’re conscious that the challenge of the competitive recruitment market is a worry for many SMEs. Reports suggest that 46% of businesses are unable to match salary and benefits offered by competitors and are losing out on people for their roles. Our current prediction is that this is unlikely to change but a personal approach to recruitment, and employment, can be part of the solution,

Good Egg Recruitment are also conscious that the majority of surveys reporting on recruitment challenges gain responses from those with a dedicated HR professional. For those where the Operations Director, Head of Finance or any department head is leading recruitment the challenges might not be shared as widely for reporting.
