Coventry students gather to mark the coronation with campus-wide celebration

Hundreds of Coventry students gathered ahead of the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort at a special event in the city centre.

Coventry College hosted a jam-packed day of royal-inspired activities to mark the Coronation, with a celebration of diversity and creativity capped by a campus-wide afternoon tea.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students hosted a range of competitions and games including a guess the country game, a guitar showcase, and a fashion show. 

There was also a West African Joliba drumming demonstration and a vehicle display from the Motor Vehicle department featuring red, white and blue Minis.

Street food, poetry readings, learner artwork and student performances added to the occasion, while the college kicked off its contribution to The Big Help Out with a student sign-up session, pledging an incredible 240 hours to support to the community through volunteering.

Special guests including Corin Crane, chief executive of Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, Louise Bennett OBE, Deputy Lieutenant of Warwickshire, and Derek Willer MBE, President of Robot Day in addition to Armed Forces Regiment 159, who supported the event.

Gemma Knot, Vice Principal for Business Growth, Engagement and Partnerships at Coventry College, said: “It was brilliant to bring together so many people from across the college for our own special Coronation celebration, with a wide range of activities and events from a wide range of subjects. 

“It was also great to see students wanting to get involved in The Big Help Out, which is another chance for people throughout the college to support local charities and initiatives after some fantastic engagement with the BRIT Challenge in recent months.”
