After enjoying the performance and Jacobean-inspired meal complete with a mead cocktail and goblets of wine and lager, guests will be treated to an outdoor firework display over the lake, followed by a post-banquet disco.
Dishes include marinated rib of swine with sage, cider and honey and quarter roasted fowl, rolled in mace, tarragon and crushed black pepper in a sharp lemon and mead sauce, followed by an apple and apricot crumble with elderflower cream.
The event will recall Coombe Abbey’s role in the gunpowder plot, which had been targeted in the plot to capture Princess Elizabeth daughter of King James I, who had been sent to Coombe Abbey to be under the supervision of John Harrington, the king’s close friend.
On the night of November 4, the conspirators headed for Dunsmore Heath for a mock hunt – a cover for the capture of Princess Elizabeth. But, unbeknown to them, authorities in London had been warned about the treasonous plan thanks to an anonymous letter.
The plot was foiled with the princess being moved from Coombe Abbey into the walls of Coventry until the conspirators were captured and arrested following Fawkes’ own foiled plan to blow up parliament.
Ron Terry, Group Operations Director at No Ordinary Hospitality Management, which operates Coombe Abbey Hotel, said: “Our Gunpowder Galas have become a really popular feature in our events calendar, and one that we look forward to every year as they celebrate the things that make Coombe Abbey unique – its incredible history and top-quality dining and hospitality.
“Those who have attended our galas before will know how special these evenings are, and we can’t wait to bring this Bonfire Night theme to life with some fantastic food and drink, a stage show, and fireworks.”
