Couple look back on stunning Asian wedding with ambitious UK-first after travelling thousands of miles to find the perfect venue

An Essex couple who travelled more than 2,500 miles to find the perfect wedding venue have revealed how a 12th century hotel helped achieve their sky-high ambitions.

Nik and Amisha Adhia, who married at Coombe Abbey Hotel in Warwickshire, believe they achieved a UK-first for an Asian wedding when they tied the knot after being whisked away after their ceremony in a hot air balloon.

The couple, who work in technology and investment banking, hosted a wedding attended by more than 500 people, which also featured a 150-person procession led by retro VW campervans decorated with Indian garlands, as well as live dance performances from both Lions Bhangra for their groom procession and a full dance and story production on the couple’s journey by Britain’s Got Talent Semi Finalists, London School of Bollywood for their reception. This was alongside five food stations with 15 dishes in addition to a mobile wood-fired pizza van.

After meeting through friends, a proposal in Santorini, and an 18-month engagement period, the pair wanted their big day to be truly special.

With celebrations spread across five days, with the main weekend at Coombe Abbey for their Indian wedding and wedding reception requiring dozens of hotel rooms for family and friends. The couple had explored 450 venues with 24 site visits across the country before visiting Coombe Abbey – the last on a long list of venues.

The pair have since returned with their first-born child Krish Adhia, sparking memories of their unique wedding day. Nik said that they were blown away by Coombe Abbey’s appearance when arriving for the first time.

He said: It’s an astounding venue with plenty of charm and modern touches throughout – we really felt it had a kind of magical quality – it even has a moat!

“But it was really the team that swung it for us. We had big plans for our wedding, and Coombe Abbey were with us every step of the way.

“One of the trickiest elements was sorting all the logistics for the hot air balloon. It took many days of planning and several site visits. We needed lots of space, which Coombe has, an accessible passenger basket to help Amisha get in and out of with her wedding dress, which was very hard to find, and for the weather to be on our side – which was obviously impossible to control.

“Throughout the process and on the day itself, the team at Coombe Abbey were incredible. Jo helped us to build the wedding of our dreams and every other member of staff helped to pull it off without a hitch, alongside the team from Saheli Events.

“We have created some unforgettable memories at Coombe Abbey, and to now return for the first time with our first-born Krish brings all of it back, and we’ll always be grateful for the role they have played in making all of that happen.”

Joanne Evans, Weddings Manager at No Ordinary Hospitality, which operates Coombe Abbey Hotel, said: “Nik and Amisha’s wedding will live long in the memory due to its sheer scale, with the result being an incredible spectacle and a beautiful moment shared by hundreds of friends and loved ones.

We always put a huge amount of personal care into each wedding, regardless of its size, but to have the chance to deliver such an ambitious event for two fantastic people was a real honour, and we are thrilled that they decided to return to mark the next major chapter in their lives with their first child.”
