The full rollout is expected to reach completion in 2024, giving local homes and businesses the chance to upgrade to full fibre and future-proof their connectivity for decades to come.
Bashir Ahmed MBE, CityFibre’s Partnership Manager for Rugby, said: “It’s exciting to reach this latest milestone in our network rollout. The build is progressing well, and thousands of households in Rugby will soon be able to access lightning-fast broadband speeds, with more set to go live in the coming months.
“We appreciate that digital infrastructure investment of this scale can take time and would like to thank everyone for their support and patience to date. This state-of-the-art network will future-proof Rugby’s digital infrastructure for years to come, and we can’t wait to see how people will benefit in terms of productivity, innovation and new investment.”
Full fibre networks use 100% fibre optics to carry data at light speed all the way from the home to the point of connection. This gives users speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps for upload and download, near limitless bandwidth and reliable connectivity.
Locally, the rollout is being completed by CityFibre’s build partner, Callan Connect. The team is working closely with Rugby Borough Council and Warwickshire County Council to ensure any disruption is managed safely and efficiently.
Cllr Martin Watson, Portfolio Holder for Economy at Warwickshire County Council, said: “CityFibre’s investment will ensure Rugby has the digital foundations it will need to thrive as our lives move increasingly online in the years ahead. We’re really pleased to see the progress achieved to date on the rollout and look forward to seeing how this infrastructure can be leveraged to drive growth and development by residents and businesses alike.”
