National flooring company supports Nuneaton charity

A homeless charity in Nuneaton that provides care, support and advice to young people has been given a generous donation from a national flooring company. UK Flooring Direct set up an initiative asking employees to show their support and give generously in aid of Doorway in Nuneaton over the winter months.

The caring colleagues at the Hinckley-based business did their bit for the good cause collecting a whole host of items – which are already being put to good use by those who need them most. Team members filled several bags with everything from clothes to food and toiletries so that the charity could create starter packs for the young people it helps.

UK Flooring Direct - which sells a range of flooring including real wood, laminate and vinyl via its website – has had a long association with the charity and over the years has made a number of donations. The plan is to now run a series of collections throughout the year in a bid to support the Dugdale Street-based charity with further donations on an ongoing basis.

Kay McEwan, of UK Flooring Direct, said: “We were extremely pleased with all the donations that we had and we want to thank all the staff that contributed.

“We set up collection points for staff to donate whatever they wanted and we got everything from clothes, food and toiletries.

“This is just the first collection of the year and we will be working closely with Doorway to make sure we collect items that they really need.

“Doorway has been supporting homeless young people for so many years, so we it felt it was a fantastic charity to support and help with the donations.

Created in 1997, Doorway’s mission is to give homeless young people a future through advice, accommodation options, support and life skills development. The charity provides a range of core services which are supported by other initiatives all of which aim to tackle all aspects of social disadvantage including poor housing, low levels of household incomes and low educational attainment.

Carol Haden, project work at Doorway, said it is always best to contact the charity direct to see what they are in need of if people are thinking about making donations.

She said: “I would like to say a huge thank you UK Flooring Direct and all its staff for their contributions, they were all very much appreciated.

“It is through the generosity of the community that we can help as many young homeless people as we can through our services.

“We are always in need of donations of all kinds, and there are times when we may be running short of certain items more than others so we would put a call out for those, so it is best to get in touch with us and see what we are in need of and I know that UK Flooring Direct plan to do that.”
