Traditional business learning turned on it's head for event at Coombe Abbey Hotel

A historic Warwickshire hotel is joining forces with an organisation that turns traditional business learning on its head for a special event.

Traditional business learning turned on it's head for event at Coombe Abbey Hotel

Coombe Abbey Hotel and the Alternative Business School are collaborating on an event for those who are interested in new and different ideas.

Going ahead on Wednesday, September 12 the event is entitled ‘The Role of Fear in Business’ and will focus on fear and vulnerability, how it manifests and what can be done about it.

Ron Terry, general manager of Coombe Abbey Hotel, said it was exciting to be hosting the business seminar that is providing a different subject matter and approach.

“We are very pleased to be working with the Alternative Business School for this informative event and hope as many people as possible attend,” said Ron.

“The team will be bringing some new ideas and ways of thinking that could prove to be incredibly useful and interesting.

“The whole evening will be light-hearted, something that all business people can get involved in and offer up a diverse range of thoughts, experiences and concepts.”

Running between 5.30pm and 9pm, the event will be taking place in the Abbeygate Medieval Baronial Hall at the venue.

Drinks and food will be served up for those who attend during the evening.

Howard Karloff from the Alternative Business School, said: “The Role of Fear in Business, was inspired by a question that was asked at one of our earlier sessions by one of our regular attendees.

“The question related to the relationship between fear and vulnerability in senior figures in an organisation: how do people become afraid of the consequences of their actions, and how does fear dictate how people interact with each other?

“One of the aspects that we hope to explore is that of ‘excruciating vulnerability’ – the unwillingness to allow people to see exactly who you are as an individual, out of fear that this will show weakness and increase the risk of being ‘found out’ by those around you.

“As with all of the topics covered by the Alternative Business School we will be presenting a few ideas that we have gathered from our research into this subject, and combining these with the real-life experiences and opinions of the people in the room.

“In this way we hope to give everyone the opportunity to select the elements that might make a difference for them, sticking to our mantra of ‘Stuff You Can Use, Things That Work’.

“We never have, and never will, subscribe to the belief that business-related topics should be dull and feature endless presentations.

“We are always on the lookout for interesting locations for our events, hence choosing the Baronial Hall at Coombe Abbey, which is allegedly a haunted house! What better place to talk about being frightened and what you are afraid of?”
