The footballing legend will be the special guest at The Wigley Group’s annual golf day and gala dinner which has over the years netted close to £100,000 for soldiers in need through Support Our Paras.

Money raised from the event will go to the Wigley Support Fund which helps injured, serving and veteran soldiers with the transition from military to civilian life by equipping them with new skills for a new start.

Sir Geoff will be joined by other sporting greats at the fundraiser on Thursday, July 18 at the De Vere Staverton Estate, near Daventry, which gets underway with a spectacular aerial display and landing on the golf course by the Red Devils.

As well as speaking at the gala dinner, Sir Geoff will present prizes to winners of the golf open ahead of an auction of sports memorabilia and other items.

Sir Geoff said: “It’s an honour to be invited to speak and help to make money for such a worthy cause. I’m looking forward to the evening very much.”

It is the seventh year that the golf day has been held by the property and development company, whose headquarters are at Stockton, Southam.

Robert Wigley, chairman of The Wigley Group, said: “We are delighted to have Sir Geoff Hurst as our special guest and after dinner speaker.

“It is a firm fixture in the region’s business calendar and we are sure that Sir Geoff will be a huge draw, as were his World Cup winning teammates Gordon Banks, who sadly died in February, and George Cohen when they joined us in 2014.

“It will be a great opportunity to hear from a sporting legend, who is still the only person to have scored a hat-trick in a World Cup Final, and join him in helping us to take our fundraising for soldiers in need to well over £100,000.”

Hosted by TV sports announcer and former paratrooper John McDonald, the event is set to attract 200 business professionals from across the region.
