Birmingham Assay Office, is a purpose built, contemporary venue offering a unique mix of heritage and modernity. Assay Office Birmingham was founded in 1773 to provide assaying (testing) and hallmarking of precious metal items (gold, silver, platinum and palladium) as required by the Hallmarking Act. It has been a centre of expert opinion and independent assessment of jewellery and precious metals for nearly 250 years. The new home of the Assay Office has been an exciting stage in the Assay Office’s history and in the continued regeneration of the Jewellery Quarter. The environmentally friendly design is built to BREEAM ‘Very Good’ standard and includes an active mix of current Assay Office uses as well as providing substantial conference, training and cultural spaces that can exhibit current & historical material of Birmingham and the Jewellery Quarter, including a new home for the Assay Office’s Collection of silver and historic reference texts. Providing a fresh and unique environment for training, meetings, conferences and private dining.
