Niall O’Connor, now in his final year of a photography BA, took the title after impressing creative designers with his artistic take on the world of fashion - despite never having entered his work into a competition before.
The 24-year-old photography student was selected as one of three finalists thanks to a creative portfolio of portraits taken in and around the city, before being named winner at an awards night this month.
Niall, who lives in Coventry, said: “This is my first time entering a competition. To win first prize against a large number of photographers is an achievement I’m very proud of.
“I’ve always aspired to work within the industry as a fashion photographer so I’m looking forward to my future after graduation, and the opportunities that may open up from this award.”
The former Woodlands Academy pupil is now in his final year of his BA at Coventry. He was joined in his category by fellow student, Lara Bailey who came runner-up on the night with her selection of photographs.
Now in their 11th year, the annual fashions awards evening provides a platform for emerging and creative talent to show off their skills to the region. For more, visit www.midlandsfashionawards.co.uk.
