Pershore College to open its doors

Pershore College is inviting anyone interested in finding out about its school leaver courses, apprenticeships and degree programmes to come to an open day on Saturday 24 November to discover the diverse range of courses currently on offer.

Pershore College to open its doors

The event from 10am to 1pm will give visitors a chance to look around the college’s specialist facilities, speak to expert staff and talk to current students in order to get the advice and guidance needed to decide which course or apprenticeship is right for them.

Founded in 1954, Pershore College has a long history as a centre of horticultural excellence and is a regional hub approved by the Royal Horticultural Society. It also has a specialist animal centre which offers a range of courses in animal welfare and veterinary nursing from Level 1 right through to honours degree.

A state-of-the-art Agri-Tech Research Centre houses the electronic, robotic and computer-based technologies that are used to educate students on the modern applications of agri-tech. The facilities ensure that students are prepared for this fast-moving industry with the latest technology used in agriculture and horticulture including drones, GPS surveying equipment and hydroponics on campus.

The college also trains apprentices in land-based service engineering. Working as a land-based service engineer involves maintaining a range of machinery, plant and equipment in the agricultural, forestry and horticultural industries. The industry sector is currently experiencing a shortage in qualified engineers in parallel with an aging workforce, so job opportunities are excellent with many more vacancies than there are people to fill them.

For anyone not sure what course they want to study or even if college is right for them, the college’s friendly, impartial student services team will be on hand to offer confidential advice on careers and opportunities available. Visitors can talk to them about career choices, progression to higher education or any other training and educational opportunity.

Pershore College Plant Nursery is also holding a sale of trees, hedging and plants from 9am - 4pm.

The college, part of the WCG Worcestershire group of further education colleges, was rated Good in its latest Ofsted report. The open event is for students of all ages, at all study levels, whether they are leaving school or looking for an apprenticeship, part-time or higher education course.

To register and avoid the queues simply book a place online at www.wcg.ac.uk/openevents. For more information about a wide range of horticulture courses including apprenticeships, full or part-time courses and degrees go to www.wcg.ac.uk/horticulture or call 0300 456 0049.
