To mark the centenary, the college’s blacksmithing & farriery department was approached to create two commemorative metal poppies for two local communities, by Elizabeth Greetham, Chair Moreton Morrell Parish Council.
On Sunday 11 November, the poppy for Moreton Morrell Village was presented at two ceremonies including one at the Moreton War Memorial and a second event with a peace theme at Moreton Morrell School. This Service was designed and delivered by the school children and involved the lighting of a beacon.
Dafydd Bowles, Blacksmithing and Farrier Instructor for Moreton Morrell College, said: “This has been a honour and pleasure to work with both parish councils on this monumentally historic project. I took great pride in producing these two poppies to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the war.”
Elizabeth Greetham, said: “The poppy installation will be on display at Moreton Morrell school for some months, after which the poppy will be permanently displayed as part of the Moreton Morrell church war memorial.
“This event has pulled together village, school, church, college and our neighbouring community at Ashorne and Newbold Pacey, where the second poppy will be displayed.”
