Born in Coventry, 27-year-old Matt recently returned to his roots to play his part in delivering the local bus service for customers in Coventry and Warwickshire.

Aged 16, Matt started out in transport as a National Express Customer Service Assistant in Pool Meadow bus station and his career has gone from strength-to-strength.

Matt King said:

“I’m delighted to have returned to National Express, where I first started my career in transport 11 years ago. Being born and bred in Coventry, I’m extremely passionate about my part in helping to deliver the city’s bus services.

“Customers are using our services more because we’re delivering an attractive, modern bus network in our growing city. Millions have been invested in our vehicles, our technology and our people, and I’m very proud to be a part of that.

“I’m excited about the future and I’m looking forward to working together with our people and our partners across the region to carry even more happy passengers, more safely than ever.”

When Matt was 18, he began driving National Express Coventry buses while studying his Transport Management degree at Aston University in Birmingham.

After successfully completing his degree, he joined a graduate programme with bus company Go Ahead which took him away from city-living and down to the Dorset coast. During his time as a Graduate Management Trainee he gained essential experience of looking after the operation of several depots.

In 2016, Matt joined morebus as an Assistant Operations Manager and then in 2017 he moved back to Coventry and joined East Midlands bus operator trentbarton as a Service Delivery Manager.

He returned to National Express last year and was originally based at the Walsall depot as an Assistant Operations Manager before he became Operations Manager at the Ford Street depot in Coventry.
