It aims to give its pupils as many opportunities as possible and it strives to raise aspirations of all pupils and their families.

The robotics team was set up two years ago and the pupils have given up their free time to work tirelessly on building and programming robots to enter in VEX IQ robotics competitions.

The children are aged nine to 11 and have had to compete against students who are mostly from secondary schools and who are much older than them.

This year the team from Howes qualified for the National Championships in Telford where they competed against the top 60 teams in the UK from as far afield as Aberdeen and Devon, most of whom were from secondary schools.

They achieved a very high score in all the heats and got through to the final round. Their score qualified them for a place in the World Championships in Kentucky, USA, which takes place in April.

The competition is run by VEX IQ Robotics and competing teams will be attending from many countries including the USA, China, South Korea, Finland, Australia and many others.

The competition is from 28-30 April and the school needs a total of £15,000 to take all six team members to the World Championships to represent not only Coventry, but also the UK.

They have already raised £6,000 through generous sponsorship from CityFibre, Eon and Worley Coaches but need to have the rest of the money raised by the beginning of April so that they can organise the travel arrangements.
