Coventry University’s Institute of Coding is carrying out crucial work with the NHS to help the healthcare sector make the most of digital advances.
The University’s Institute of Coding is creating a range of digital courses focused on allowing staff to meet the needs of patients in innovative new ways as part of the NHS’s long term plan to improve digital competency,
Nationally, the Institute of Coding is made up of 25 Higher Education Institute partners working to develop the next generation of digital talent at degree level and above.
Each takes the lead on a different aspect involved of the transformation, with Coventry University’s Institute of Coding leading on ‘Digitalising the Professions’.
This will see new flexible master’s programmes created, as well as online learning modules and Continued Professional Development (CPD) courses, influenced by the digital skills gaps which need addressing in the NHS.
Louise Phipps, business development manager at the Coventry University Institute of Coding, said: “This is an prestigious project for us to be a part of, we are going to help introduce changes which will have an impact on society for generations to come.
“I am looking forward to working with businesses to see how their digital practices can translate over to the NHS and help achieve the ambitions they have for the long-term.”
The NHS’s long-term plan, published in January, emphasised the importance of improvements in technological understanding for the healthcare sector.
A key focus is allowing patients to better manage their own health and care, with plans in place to roll out a range of digital services which support people to become more proactive and responsible for their own health.
Faster access to records, with an emphasis on improving safety and efficiency, is also listed as a major target.
As the Institute of Coding starts its journey to improve digital skills in the NHS, a continuous professional development event aimed at front line staff within the healthcare sector who regularly interact with patient and personal data will be held at Coventry University, with cyber security and the key risks to the healthcare sector as a result of hackers set to be discussed in depth.
This event is free to attend and staff from the Institute of Coding will be on hand to discuss any ideas for new digital content and courses on March 20th.
