Band Hatton Button invests in next generation

A Coventry law firm is building on plans for its long-term future by investing in a group of apprentices. Band Hatton Button, which is based on Warwick Road in the city, is broadening the skillsets of its existing apprentices to help the business meet growing demand in line with its growth plans.

It comes off the back of the firm achieving a record year of annual turnover which currently stands at £4.5 million – up six per cent on last year.

Megan Curtlin, 23, joined Band Hatton Button’s administration team in early 2015 and has since been promoted to Administration Supervisor, and has recently started studying for an NVQ qualification level 3 in Business Administration at Coventry College, which will continue over the next two years.

Eloise Giles, 19, who has been at the firm for over two years, is now undertaking a two-year Paralegal Apprenticeship with CU Coventry, with a view to then doing a further two years as part of a Chartered Legal Executive Apprenticeship.  This includes time working within the office and also a day a week out at university.

Hannah Wilby, 17, joined the firm last Summer as an Office Junior Apprentice to support the firm’s 82-strong workforce with administrative tasks.  Hannah has already been nominated for apprentice of the year by her college.

Jack Austin-King, 18, has also recently started at the firm as a Paralegal Apprentice, having previously been at the firm on a fixed work placement assisting the Litigation Department.

Natalie Ormerod, Head of HR & Quality at Band Hatton Button, said: “Recruiting and developing apprentices is a great way of growing our business, not just for us and our long-term future, but for the industry as a whole as it helps bring through the next generation of legal and business professionals.

“We’re also keen to develop the working relationships between employers in the city such as ourselves and colleges and universities to try and keep up-and-coming talent working here in the city of Coventry.

“According to data from the Department for Education, business/law is the second largest sector to embrace apprenticeships and 138,665 contracts were offered in 2016-17.

“All of our apprentices have shown great initiative early on in their careers and hopefully their time with us will spur them on in their chosen fields.  It is also a real pleasure working with a group who are keen to develop themselves and their roles within our firm”.
