BTEC level 3 Art and Design students have designed greeting cards featuring poppy designs for Remembrance Sunday as part of their studies.
The unique designs portrayed on the cards were put together using a printing technique called the ‘Relief Method’ after students were given a brief to create a range of designs relating to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
As part of their task, the team had to ensure their designs could be used for all occasions, while still using the poppy theme associated with Remembrance Sunday.
Laura Johnson, Programme Manager for Creative & Performing Arts, said: “We are very proud that our art and design students have taken this project to heart and come up with some beautiful designs to commemorate the First World War centenary.”
Simon Gee, Course Organiser for Level 3 Art and Design, said: “Even though the theme is related to the Poppy Appeal, they were asked to think of the design as an attractive greeting card for all occasions, such as birthdays, as the inside would be left blank and the information on the appeal will be on the back of the card.
“We have put some of the cards up for sale and have had a positive response from students and staff.”
Coventry College’s art and design course allows students to study a range of materials, techniques and processes, and then develop their creative potential through a series of projects and live projects.
Student Cynthia Otim said: “This project in particular was an enjoyable one because we were able to use our creativity to pay respect to those who had lost their lives in the First World War.
“I think everyone really stepped up and got a beautiful design together, we are all very proud of what we have achieved.”
