More than 50 students contributed to the project, gaining hands-on experience in cladding, studwork, and roofing in a real-world environment. Businesses like Taylor Wimpey, Bates, and ECA Toolfast supported the effort by donating materials.
The new EPA centre features examiner offices, a tool store, five work bays, and an open area for brickwork. It will host its first assessments in Spring 2025, welcoming Level 2 and Level 3 Carpentry and Level 2 Brickwork learners.
Moreton Morrell College has also earned a City & Guilds Excellence in EPA plaque, recognizing its high pass rates and distinctions. Krishna Parekh, City & Guilds Business Manager, presented the plaque, which will be displayed in the new centre.
John Billings, Head of Work-Based Learning for Construction at WCG, said: “This project allowed learners to apply their skills and create a lasting legacy at the college. Previously, EPAs were conducted in a busy workshop. This dedicated space ensures apprentices complete their training efficiently.”
Billings added, “We hope this sparks further facility expansion at WCG to meet local skills needs. The curriculum and Work-Based Learning teams deserve recognition for their hard work.”
