Trade body boost for college electrical engineering provision

Electrical engineering at North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College (NWSLC) is due to be strengthened by membership of a leading trade association. NWSLC has been recognised by the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) with educational associate membership, for its achievements in training the next generation of electrical engineers.

Paul Dancer, learning and skills manager for engineering at the college is working closely with the ECA and plans to showcase the college’s curriculum which includes qualifications in electrical installations at Levels 1-3 and apprenticeships in electrical engineering. Educational associate membership will provide networking opportunities for college tutors and additional access to continuous professional development.

Paul said, “This is a significant step for the college’s engineering team and will bring us even closer to the industry that we serve by supplying well-trained and knowledgeable new recruits. It is very important that we keep close to industry trends and best practice to enable our students and apprentices to be as well prepared as they can be to enter the workforce. This has become even more important as the economy faces the challenge of overcoming the coronavirus crisis.”

The ECA is the UK’s leading trade association for electro-technical and engineering services businesses and its members collectively employs around 5,000 industry apprenticeships. The organisation has a long history of supporting the development and improvement of skills within the industry.

Educational associate membership provides a mutually beneficial opportunity to organisations and institutions to engage with the ECA on all aspects of technical and legal content, ensuring that both tutors and students are aware of the latest updates and requirements. NWSLC tutors will now be able to benefit from access to a range of ECA content, including best practice guides and research, the latest technical and industry news, and regional ECA contacts.

Marion Plant, OBE FCGI, Principal and Chief Executive of NWSLC said, “This is a significant development for our engineering team and we look forward to working closely with the ECA to enhance the skills and knowledge of our tutors and to further improve the quality of the learning experience for our students and apprentices.”

Helen Atkinson, ECA Director of Member Services, said, “We are delighted to welcome NWSLC as the ECA’s latest education associate. We look forward to working closely with NWSLC over the coming period to maximise commercial opportunities and industry collaboration.

“NWSLC will now have access to an unbeatable package of resources, and the ability to further engage with the ECA’s membership base, which includes many leading electrotechnical and engineering services businesses.”
