Supporting Carers is a Legal Responsibility
Under UK law, carers have the right to request flexible working, to take time off for emergencies, and to access certain financial and support entitlements. Yet, despite these legal protections, many carers still experience barriers to support in the workplace, facing challenges that lead some to reduce their hours or leave work entirely. This Carers Rights Day, Carers Trust Heart of England is shining a spotlight on the importance of retaining carers in employment and the benefits to businesses that commit to supporting them.
Benefits to your organisation
A landmark joint HM Government and Employers for Carers/Carers UK Report “Supporting Working Carers” includes evidence from over 200 employers that providing carers with better support in the workplace has resulted in business benefits and cost savings through:
- improved staff retention
- increased staff productivity
- reduced sick leave and absenteeism
Carer Friendly Employer Program
To address these issues, Carers Trust Heart of England is proud to promote its Carer Friendly Employer Program, a framework designed to help businesses better support working carers. The program provides resources, training, and support tailored to creating workplaces that are flexible, understanding, and responsive to carers' needs.
Carers Trust Heart of England invites employers, stakeholders, and community members to learn more about the Carer Friendly Employer Program and join the movement to support carers’ rights in the workplace.
