Sydenham History Group - Postcards of Leamington and Beyond

The SYDNI Centre, Cottage Square, Sydenham, Leamington Spa, CV31 1PT

Date: 23 July 2024 - 7:30pm

Sydenham History Group was formed in 2007 and the first meeting was at the SYDNI Centre in January 2008. Except for the interruption caused by the Coronavirus pandemic it has been running ever since.

It came about when the Chair, Nigel Briggs, was talking about the history of the area with the then Manager of the SYDNI Centre, Alaina MacGregor, and she immediately accessed Community Development funding from WCC in order to start a history group and to produce a book on the history of the local area.

Nigel got a group of interested people together and the society was formed. Meetings are held approximately six times a year and are appreciated by not only people from the immediate area but from far and wide.

Our next event will be held on 23rd July 2024, where we will be talking about Postcards of Leamington and Beyond. Admission £2.50 per person.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Imagineer Productions would like to invite you to visit our wonderful heritage building, the Daimler Powerhouse, on the Coventry Canal.  We'd love to show you this amazing site and get to know more of our local business community.

The Powerhouse:

Built in 1909 to provide electricity to the massive Daimler car factory and was the only building on the site to survive the Coventry blitz; in more recent times the building continues to be a powerhouse but for cultureal creation and community engagement.  It underwent a £2.5million refurbishment to become a sustainable creation space for the cultural life of the city.

  • We will give you a whistlestop tour of the building and some of its history, presided over by our 6-metre high Lady Godiva!
  • Introduce you to 'Streets of Cov', our summer programme of free entertainment for our city and how you can get involved.
  • show the ways in which you can hire the building as a unique venue for all sorts of different events.
  • Refreshments will be service during a bit of friendly networking.

Hosted with the support of Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce.
