The Climate Change Committee estimates that the UK will need to invest over £1 trillion between 2020 and 2050 to reach net zero. This represents a significant opportunity for the growth of the green economy creating new green jobs while reducing carbon emissions. 

Green financing will play a critical role play in working making net-zero and in the fight against climate change possible. After the economic shocks experienced in the pandemic, green finance presents a huge opportunity to build back with a greener future, creating new businesses and jobs.

Professor Hisham Farag

Hisham Farag is a Professor of Finance, Head of Research at Birmingham Business School  and Director of the Sustainable Financial Innovation Research Centre (SFiC) at the University of Birmingham. His current research areas are FinTech, Sustainable Finance, Corporate Finance and Corporate Governance, in which he published widely. He holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Birmingham, UK. Hisham is a qualified Non-Executive Director and a member of the Investments sub-committee at the University of Birmingham. He has extensive industry experience as a financial consultant and a successful track record in attracting research funding from reputable institutions e.g. the Bank of England. Hisham is an Associate Editor of the European Journal of Finance, Review of Corporate Finance, Research in International Business & Finance and Business Ethics: the Environment & Responsibility.

As Business Engagement Manager for the ARLI project (Civil Engineering), Jon manages the relationship with organisations, supporting their engagement in the exciting Alternative Raw materials with Low Impact (ARLI) project, driving the delivery of innovations in sustainability and research collaborations looking at Waste, Materials, Construction & Infrastructure.
 
Jon is extremely experienced working globally as a Sustainability Consultant on a variety of international projects and more recently has focused nationally on Circular Economy solutions within the Construction and Waste Management sectors.
