A new cake decorating business, creating real-life looking buttercream blooms, is hoping to find the recipe for success after being supported with its launch.
Neetha Syam, from Coventry, came up with the business idea after her career change from accountancy to writing left a void in her social life.
The launch of Buttercream Petals came about through Neetha Syam’s passion for learning new techniques of cake decorating and the desire to share the art with like-minded cake enthusiasts.
The company is offering small-scale cake businesses, café chefs and hobby bakers the opportunity to tap into the art-form either through one-to-one classes or group courses.
But Neetha Syam needed advice on the hard-nosed side of business to help get the company off the ground and received support from business adviser Margaret Bull at the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce.
“I was aware that my biggest weakness was selling and when I contacted the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of commerce, I was still sceptical of my capability to run a business efficiently.” she said.
“But, my mentor, Margaret, helped me realise that with the right techniques, it is possible to tackle marketing and selling quite effectively.
“I cannot thank Margaret and the Chamber enough and I would urge anyone who is thinking of starting a business to get in touch with them.”
Margaret said: “It’s been a pleasure to help and advise Neetha Syam. We very often find that people have great passion and skills, which offers the potential for a business idea but they need help in actually getting it off the ground and working out how to make the idea a reality.
“Neetha Syam has listened and taken on board the advice and there is no reason why the company cannot be a great success.”
Buttercream Petals’ next buttercream flower piping course event is on Saturday, August 20 at midday in Binley, Coventry. More information is available at www.facebook.com/buttercreampetals or from [email protected]
